Phil, although hurt and upset by her actions, decides to play a waiting game, determined to find out all he can so that he is there for her when she desperately needs his help.
About The Author
Louise Pakeman was born in England and started writing seriously at the age of seven. When she wasn't writing she was reading, and still sees books as the best form of entertainment. After a series of varied jobs in different parts of the British Isles, she married a farmer and settled in Bedfordshire. In 1968 she and her husband and three young children moved to Australia. Her family, which now includes four grandchildren, all live in Victoria.
Some of Louise's many novels are now available as audio books and Kindle eBooks, and she also has a collection of short stories in print. In addition to her first love, writing, she also enjoys gardening, the cinema and theatre, dining out, and spending time with family and friends.
A lover of all animals, Louise has a special regard for cats, who she feels are the perfect companion for writers, as their ability to be unobtrusive and spend long periods in meditation is inspiring. She has written several books about cats under the name Ann Walker, including The Power of the Cat, which tells of the influence they have had in her life, as well as the power inherent in all cats.
From The Book
I was determined to look forward and not back, and by the time we reached Stadmere my thoughts were on Appledown and what I might find there.
I was wondering who to look for, half expecting Matthew Blake himself. My gaze flicked over a man in dark uniform, assuming that he was a taxi driver, and did not realize his attention was on me 'til he spoke.
'Victoria Carpenter?'
I was so seldom called by my full name that it was a moment or two before I responded... His eyes flicked over me and I felt warm colour flood into my cheeks, much to my embarrassment. I tried to look both dignified and annoyed, but failed on both counts I am sure, so returned his grin of approval with a hesitant smile of my own...
