Synopsis
Michael and most of the other children living in their small community are somewhat neglected. A victim of his parents' physical and emotional abuse, like all children, he has an instinctive need to please, and he tries to do his best to limit the punishment.
Because it is the only world he and the other children know, they don't realise the extent to which they are being mistreated.
Then one particularly dreadful day, his parents' lack of care leaves Michael and his cousin Julie in mortal danger, only seconds away from death... or perhaps a fate even worse.
About The Author
Between the ages of six and sixteen, Graeme John Witney lived in Lake Boga, Victoria. The lifestyle was ideal, swimming nearly every day during the hotter months of the year (and sometimes the colder ones). On the weekends, he and friends would get on their pushbikes early in the morning and head off with some sandwiches on the eleven-kilometre trip around the lake, stopping off at their favourite swimming spots on the way, sometimes not returning home until 6pm.
Then at sixteen, Graeme moved to Bendigo, Victoria to attend the Institute of Technology, studying Information Technology. He is still working in IT, rueing the fact that writing software also involves writing hefty user manuals. He also likes to write a book for his nephews every Christmas.
With a hobby of building Robots, mechanical devices usually feature in his fiction. Writing Dragondream has been a happy diversion, so much so that a sequel, Dragondream: The Return is already underway.
From The Book
The dragon suddenly raised its head and gnashed its teeth. Great belches of flame shot up into the sky. The roaring sound it made was deafening, and Michael was sure his eardrums were going to burst.
With the flames still shooting out of the beast's mouth, it slowly lowered its head. Michael turned his back and shielded his young cousin from the inevitable. He closed his eyes and could feel the heat on his back as he held his screaming cousin tighter...
